What I do:
I head Cooley’s business development in Silicon Valley which means I get to meet and work with the founders of cool startup companies. You’ll find me meeting with entrepreneurs in the Cooley office or at local coffee shops where we review the company’s business model and plan. I help founders grow their businesses by making well-matched introductions to Cooley attorneys, investors and other service providers and partners. When I’m not meeting with startups, you’ll find me introducing Cooley’s team and capabilities to incubators, accelerators, co-working spaces, universities and investors.
Our advice to startups goes far beyond simple legal work — we help grow businesses. Startups are part of our DNA. We’ve been advising startups and VCs for 50+ years. In fact, Cooley formed the first venture capital firm west of the Mississippi in 1958! Our style is collaborative and collegial. We enjoy our work and our clients really feel that difference.
I ran marketing and business development for two SaaS startups, both of which were acquired. (I hired attorneys in those roles, so I know what it feels like to engage with a lawyer!) Prior to the startups, I held executive positions in marketing and business development for over a decade at HP. I also had a stint running operations for a private equity firm in the Bay Area. If you go way back, I was a beach lifeguard.
Some of the companies and entrepreneurs I have worked with:
I was privileged to have met both Bill Hewlett and David Packard during my HP career.
Time at the cabin with family, all types of live music, and Sam – our golden lab.
I root for:
Golden State Warriors, 49ers, SF Giants, Michigan Wolverines.
