What I do:
I provide creative tax solutions to a range of clients from emerging technology companies to large multi-national conglomerates.
Why Cooley:
Cooley is a reflection of its key clients as it values creativity, collaboration and entrepreneurial spirit in all aspects of practice. The firm partners with its clients to provide pragmatic legal solutions to business issues in a fast paced ever-changing landscape.
What my clients value:
My clients value the ability to take a complicated subject like the tax code and put it into plain English. They appreciate an analysis that takes into account the business considerations in any transaction rather than a mechanical reading of the tax laws. Creativity and clarity are key.
Likes:
Rock climbing, bio-hacking, vegan cooking.
Great reads:
Stealing Fire by Kotler and Wheal, 10% Happier by Dan Harris, Natural Born Heroes by Christopher McDougall and The Bulletproof Diet by Dave Aspey (I lost 32 pounds!)
When I’m not being a Cooley lawyer:
I have been an adjunct professor in the Tax LLM Program at Loyola Law School for 14 years where I teach courses on International Taxation, Corporate Taxation and Mergers and Acquisitions. They say that the best way to learn is to teach; and every year I learn something new as a result of teaching. In addition, teaching tax to law students forces me to continually master the art of breaking down complicated issues and putting them into a format that is easy to learn.
I root for:
USA Figure Skating. My daughter spent three years competing Nationally and Internationally for Team USA.
